TOPIC: THE ULTIMATE FATE OF THE UNGODLY

Opening Prayer
Dear Lord, I request that you help me to encounter you as I meditate on your word.
Bible Text
Revelation 18:1-24

Questions for meditation
►Q1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?

►Q5: Is there any warning for me to heed?
The thriving commercial Babylon is also destroyed. See what characterized this wicked city: hotbed of demons (Revelation 18:2), headquarters of godless and evil merchandise (Revelation 18:3,11-17); filled with iniquity and arrogance (Revelation 18:5-7) and the center of bloodshed (Revelation 18:23,24). When we live apart from God, these characteristics are likely to reflect in our lives. The fate of this city is obvious just as ours, if we live outside God. It is from God Himself (Revelation 18:8,20). So, no escaping. For us, we still have God’s mercy at our disposal. What is the instruction in v.4 for the believer?

Babylon’s cup had overstretched God’s tolerance and patience (Revelation 18:5). Her total destruction is to come in a moment (see 1 Corinthians 15:52). Her accomplices and bedfellows (the nations) would mourn for her. But there shall be rejoicing amongst God’s people (Revelation 18:20). Jeremiah had predicted total annihilation of this godless Babylon in Jeremiah 51:29-32 almost similar to Revelation 18:21-24. We must be sure of our walk with God, because the warning signs about the return of our Lord are evident everywhere. We ought therefore to examine ourselves and correct the needful and repent where necessary. God’s judgment is very certain and imminent.

And So:
Beware of worldliness and the prevalent tendency towards a godless society. They speak of Babylon.
